Initial Polls Show Public Opposes Roberts Ruling on Obamacare

The first poll numbers released on yesterday's Obamacare decision show that the public opposes the ruling by Chief Justice John Roberts that the law is constitutional. SurveyUSA polls of adults in Kansas, Florida and California show widespread opposition to the ruling--even liberal California is evenly split on the issue.

It remains to be seen whether these results are confirmed by other, possibly larger and more accurate, polls. It is possible that the Court's ruling will bolster the law's legitimacy, even though it is a massive tax hike. For the moment, however, as Ann Althouse suggests, Americans seem to have found out--finally--"what's in it."

The past several months have seen the price of gold slump even as the Fed and other central banks have accelerated their massive expansion of paper money. Gold is off about 20% so far this year with silver down almost 30%. The old adage--“don’t fight the Fed”--particularly comes to mind now because the US equity markets have been setting new highs during this same period. All of these gains are nominal, you understand, but for terrified American policy makers and investors, nominal is just fine.
