Indiana Man Allegedly Spits Blood at Cops, Says 'I Have Hep C'

An Indiana man is facing a series of charges after being arrested for an early morning domestic assault. During a struggle with police, the suspect allegedly spit blood in an officer’s face, informed the officer he had Hepatitis C, and then said he hoped the officer became infected.

Anthony J. Hopkins, 27, was arrested early on April 12 for fleeing an officer after a domestic battery call. It took a police dog to chase him down.

Police arrived at a New Castle, Indiana home at 5:30 AM on April 12 and found a 25-year-old woman who told them that Hopkins had beaten her. They found a shattered glass coffee table and a broken TV. The woman also said he had dragged her by her hair.

Police found that Hopkins was hiding in a basement crawl space in the home. A police dog was used to chase him out of the hole, the dog causing some injuries to the suspect. He was bleeding when police finally caught up to him. He also scuffled with police upon exiting the crawl space.

According to The Star Press newspaper of Muncie, Indiana, when the New Castle resident crawled out of the crawl space a short struggle with police ensued, during which Hopkins allegedly spit a mouthful of blood in the face of an arresting officer.

It was reported that after Hopkins spit the blood at officers he yelled, “I hope you die,” and then informed them he had Hep C. Hopkins also said he hoped the officer would give the Hep C to his wife and kids.

The New Castle man was charged with battery by bodily waste and intimidation, both felonies. Hopkins also faces the misdemeanor charges of resisting law enforcement and disorderly conduct.

Since 2007, Hopkins has been convicted of burglary, battery, receiving stolen property, and drunk driving.

Hopkins is being held in the Henry County jail on a $21,500 bond.
