Single Mom Empties Pistol On Robber as He Tries to Steal Her Vehicle

On July 25 a Columbus, Georgia, single mother pulled a gun on a suspect stealing her Jeep and shot until she had emptied the magazine on him.

According to WTVM 9, the mother–Diane Olearnick–and her three-year-old daughter came home the day before to find their home burglarized. She said the robbers had “entered through the dog door” and “it really made [her] angry and [she] felt really violated at that point.”

Olearnick said one of the keys to her Jeep had been stolen as well, so kept her gun and daughter close the next night in case the suspects returned.

In the night she “heard [her] back gate open” and looked over her balcony to see “a man getting in [her] car.” 

Olearnick yelled down that she had a gun but the man “continued backing out of her driveway.” So she ran downstairs to catch him coming around the front of the house and unloaded her gun on him. Her actions ended up “scaring the robber out through the passenger seat and [left him] running down the street.”

Police have yet to capture the robber or determine if–or how many times–Olearnick may have struck him.
