James Foley's Parents: 'He's In God's Hands;' 'He Was a Martyr For Freedom'

James Foley’s parents, John and Diane Foley, spoke to the media early Wednesday morning about their son who was beheaded by terrorists of the Islamic State in response to the American military actions in Iraq.

The couple spoke to the press outside their New Hampshire home.

Foley was remembered as a brave and kind person who was passionate about his job as a wartime correspondent.

John Foley noted that people would ask why their son returned to war reporting even though he was captured and held in Libya in 2012.

Diane Foley recalled a moment when she spoke to her son about his job, and he replied, “‘Mom, I found my passion, I found my vocation.'”

When reporters asked where that passion came from, John Foley chuckled. “It came from his mother,” he said.
