CNN Cancels 'Sanjay Gupta MD' During Ebola Crisis

Talk about timing.

As the country is dealing with an Ebola crisis, CNN decided to cancel “Sanjay Gupta MD” on Wednesday.

According to TVNewser, which reported the news, the show, which airs on Saturdays and Sundays, was cancelled along with “CNN Money,” “Crossfire,” and “Unguarded,” which was hosted by Rachel Nichols–Jeff Zucker’s first hire at the network. Gupta will reportedly now “focus on medical breaking news, field reporting, and documentaries for the network,” and “the medical unit is being restructured and some staffers have been cut as part of the larger ongoing layoffs happening at the network.” CNN is slashing “8% of its workforce even as some of its top anchors rake in millions of dollars.”

President Barack Obama seriously considered Gupta to be the country’s Surgeon General before Gupta took his name out of consideration because he did not want to be away from his family for long periods of time.
