Two American IDF Volunteers Killed By Hamas Terrorists

American citizens Max Steinberg and Sean Carmeli were killed Sunday along with 11 other IDF soldiers in the Gaza Strip. Although the details pertaining to their deaths are still uncertain, reports have arisen suggesting that seven soldiers in their elite Golani Brigade unit were killed when Hamas terrorists fired an anti-tank missile at their position from a civilian household in Gaza.

Steinberg attended Pierce College in Los Angeles and went to El Camino Real High School. He joined the Israel Defense Forces as a Lone Soldier (volunteer) in 2012. Steinberg entered the elite Golani Brigades unit last year.

Sean Carmeli grew up in South Padre Island, Texas and attended Saint Joseph Academy in Brownsville before joining the IDF as a volunteer. His Rabbi said of Carmeli, “Sean was a gentle kind boy. He was the oldest of the local boys in our camp and was a sweet and kind example to everyone else.” The rabbi said that Carmeli’s superiors told him that he did not need to be involved in Israel’s ground fight in Gaza due to an injury to his foot. Sean, however, insisted that he would take part in the operation into Gaza.
