Rabie Shehada, an Islamic State jihadist known as “the Palestinian slayer,” has released a bizarre video in which he declares that jihadists in the Islamic State “love drinking blood,” along with the usual threats of “slaughter” to those who do not submit to the will of the terrorist group.
According to Al-Arabiya, Shehada is known by many as “the Palestinian slayer” but goes by the nom de guerre Abu Musaab al-Safouri– after Safouri, a village near his real home town Nazareth (given that Islamic State jihadists call Christians “Nazarenes,” a name that evokes that homeland would likely make Shehada the least popular jihadist in town).
Shehada recently uploaded a rant on Facebook, apparently from a war zone in Iraq or Syria, declaring his love of death and joy in killing those who do not subscribe to the Islamic State’s radical ideology. “I swear we are a people who love death for the sake of God just as you love to live,” Shehada says, adding, “I swear we are a people who love drinking blood. We came to slaughter you.”
Shehada concludes: “We love dying for God as much as you love life.”
While the Islamic State is known to engage in beheadings, crucifixions, mass rape, slavery, torture, and burying people alive, this is the first record of any desire to drink the blood of enemies, though it is unclear whether Shehada was merely invoking poetic license.
Shehada is believed to be a 26-year-old student from Nazareth, Israel, who was working on a mechanical engineering degree before leaving his wife and child behind to join the Islamic State. He is believed to be in Syria after traveling to Turkey and illegally crossing the border, as many Islamic State jihadi recruits are known to do.
The Islamic State has recently increased the number of videos it has published online to promote its terrorist cause, most recently releasing a video titled “Flames of War,” a Michael Bay-style movie trailer featuring a number of high-production-value explosions and threats to the United States. The group also released a “chat show” style video featuring a UK hostage, in which the man calls for the West not to attack the Islamic State.
