Gemany’s Bundeswehr is sending 2,000 volunteers to West Africa to help in the fight against Ebola.
The volunteers will be part of Germany’s “Ebola Task Force.”
According to Deutsche Welle, this task force consists of volunteers from throughout the spectrum in the Bundeswehr. There are “soldiers, reservists, and civilian staff members” alike. These will join with the German Red Cross (DRK) and the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) to “set up and run a mobile hospital in Liberia with 300 beds.”
Of the 300 beds, the Bundeswehr will supply 50. They will also provide “a 160-strong support team” for them.
Volunteers for the task force are currently being “assessed” and a period of “special training” will follow. Those who already have professional medical experience are expected to receive one week of intensive training, while those without medical experience could take much longer.
On September 25 an airlift began “between Dakar in Senegal and the Liberian capital Monrovia.” The airlift is being used to deliver “materiel and personnel to the stricken country.”
On September 16 Breitbart News reported that the US was sending 3,000 troops to fight Ebola in West Africa as well. Obama said he believes the US troops–together with the presence of international teams from other countries–can halt or greatly reduce Ebola’s spread.
