Gallup: Confidence In Government To Handle Ebola Falls From 61 to 52 Percent

The latest Gallup poll shows that confidence in the government to handle Ebola has fallen from 61 percent to 52 percent during the last two weeks.

According to Gallup, the biggest drops in confidence are along party lines. 

For example, during October 4-5 approximately 48 percent of Republicans had confidence in the government’s ability to handle it. By October 18-19 that percentage had fallen to 37.

On the other side of the aisle, during October 4-5 approximately 74 percent of Democrats were confident in the government’s ability to handle an Ebola outbreak. By October 18-19, that percentage had fallen only three percentage points, to 71.

Regarding the chances of a “major outbreak” in the United States, views have changed very little. During October 4-5 about 9 percent of respondents thought a major outbreak could happen. That percentage has risen only 1 point in the last two weeks, and is now at 10 percent.

Almost an equal number–9 percent–do not think an Ebola outbreak will strike the United States at all.
