Fort Sam Houston Locked Down After Saudi National ‘Rammed’ Car into Gates

The US Army’s Fort Sam Houston was locked down “around 5:30 pm” on November 23 after a Saudi National “rammed his car into the gates” of the installation.

The Latin Post reports that the lockdown was lifted “later Sunday night and the base returned to normal operations.”

The Saudi national was a college student, and his identity has not yet been released.

CBS News reported that military officials said the car “contained explosive materials” and officials are working now to determine the student’s motives. No word was given on how long the suspect would be held or whether he would face charges.

The 502nd Air Base Wing is stationed at Fort Sam Houston. The Associated Press reports that 502nd spokesman Alex Delgado countered claims that the vehicle contained explosive materials. He said it did not contain explosives or weapons.
