Syrian Airstrikes on Islamic State ‘Capital’ Kill at least 95

RAQQA, Syria, Nov. 26 (UPI) — Syrian airstrikes in the city of Raqqa killed at least 95 members of the Islamic State Tuesday the U.K.-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported.

At least 120 were injured in the attack targeting the Islamic State in an industrial area near a popular market. At least 52 of those killed were civilians. The group Raqqa is Being Silently Slaughtered reported the death toll to be around 115 and asked for emergency blood donations to treat the injured.

The attack, carried out by the Syrian government, is the latest in three years of deadly attacks in the civil war that has claimed nearly 200,000 lives.

The Islamic State exploited the unrest in Syria and has turned Raqqa into one of their strongholds. The particularly brutal group has spread through Iraq and Syria in an attempt to make a caliphate. IS has recently released videos showing the capture and slaughter of Syrian soldiers.
