'Thrill,' 'Racism,' May Have Been at Heart of Lane Killing

Initial reports regarding the murder of college baseball player Christopher Lane revealed the sick, twisted nature of the alleged teenage murderers who took a life simply for “fun.” Now, more information has come to light regarding the disgusting hatred that may have fueled what is being described as a “thrill kill.”

Tweets from the 15-year-old member of the group, James Francis Edwards, are highly racist. One says “90% of white ppl are nasty. #HATE THEM,” while another reads “Ayeee I knocked out 5 woods since Zimmerman court!:)”

The term “woods” refers to white people in a derogatory way.

Edwards, as well as the 16-year-old Chancey Allen Luna, has been charged with first degree murder as an adult. Reportedly, Luna was the one who pulled the trigger, and 17-year-old Michael Jones is being charged for driving while the gun was fired.

This random and senseless act of violence is reportedly gang-related, may have been an initiation, and stemmed from a desire for a “thrill” to alleviate some boredom. The three young men associated with the murder have been aptly characterized as “thugs” by prosecutor Jason Hicks.
