Reggie Bush didn’t play football this weekend. But he jumped into the action on Twitter surrounding the Missouri grand jury’s decision not to indict Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson.
The only Heisman Trophy winner compelled to give back the award posted a picture on his Instagram account of a Palestinian man showing solidarity towards African Americans upset over the grand jury decision. Hamde Abu Rahma, the Palestinian photographer, holds the sign, which reads: “The Palestinian people know what it mean[s] to be shot while unarmed because of your ethnicity #Ferguson #Justice.”
The Detroit Lions running back attached a message to the picture. “No matter who you are, what color skin you have, where you live, we are all in this together!” Bush explained. “This isn’t a Ferguson problem it’s a Global Problem! We need change NOW! What happened to humanity? #JusticeForMikeBrown.”
Commenters for the most part supported Bush’s post. “Reggie bush you’re pretty damn awesome for speaking the truth and not being afraid of these ignorant people who need to do their own research and see that Israel is the true terrorist killing innocent Palestinians!” one wrote. “Good for you keep it up!” Another countered: “Used to think you were smart and successful but now I know you are very uneducated and just athletic.”
Wilson killed 18-year-old Mike Brown following a struggle in Ferguson on August 9.
