Sessions' Attempt to Stop Obama's Amnesty Shot Down by Dems

Thursday, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) took to the Senate floor in an attempt to stop President Barack Obama from using executive action to grant amnesty to 5 to 6 million illegal immigrants already in the country. Unfortunately, he was defeated by a vote of 43-52.

Sessions argued, “This is a $2.7 billion bill, all money borrowed, as a result of a crisis that the president has created at the border, money this country does not have and it has zero policy changes in it.”

He added, “Republicans on the floor today and have filed and argued for a number of amendments and attempted to offer them that are focused on critical policy changes to strengthen this legislation and make it more effective. Unfortunately, the parliamentary maneuver has been executed, the tree is filled, the amendment tree is filled, and we have been prevented from offering any amendments at all. that are necessary to establish a lawful system of immigration that works and that we can be proud of.”

Sessions concluded, “I would move to table the Reid amendment on the tree, 3751, for the purpose of offering the Cruz amendment.. This amendment would prohibit the President of the United States from expending any funds to unilaterally provide amnesty and work authorizations for millions of people as has been reported in the press.”
