Friday the at a House Rules Committee hearing on the border security spending legislation, Rep. Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) decided to tell “all you white people” his genealogy was relevant to the debate.
Hastings said, “Everybody needs to understand they came from somewhere” as he pointed to first to his Native American ancestors and then added “for all of you white people in here my grandmother and great grandmother where as white as you.”
He concluded, “The white portion of my family came here from somewhere as an immigrant and the African American portion of my family were brought here. Now everybody need to get real and understand we are dealing with children.”
