Brooks: I Support 'Substance' of Executive Amnesty

New York Times columnist David Brooks said that he supports the “substance” of executive amnesty, but believes the president does not have the authority to do so unilaterally.  “On matters of substance, I agree with the policy [of granting amnesty to illegal immigrants]. I do not think the White House has the constitutional right to impose a major legislative change on its own. I do not think this is a legitimate act for the White House to do as much as I think on policy grounds it’s a good act” Brooks said on Friday’s “PBS NewsHour.” And “I just hate the idea of president doing this all by himself.”
