Actress Kelly Carlson Warns US Power Grid Vulnerable to Terrorist Attacks

Actress Kelly Carlson of “Nip/Tuck” fame appeared via Skype at the National Press Club Wednesday to raise awareness of the danger posed by a potential attack on America’s power grid — and how little authorities do to protect this precious element of our infrastructure.

During her discussion with Frank Gaffney Jr., president of the Center for Security Policy, Carlson stated that she had spent time at several electrical substations near the U.S.-Mexico border and was shocked by how little security she encountered.

“You can stand right at the fence pointing a camera for an hour at the transformers, and not one guard—not one person — will approach you to ask you what you’re doing,” Carlson said. “We thought for sure authorities were gonna come up and question us.”

At one California station, she recalls, “We were there for a good three hours and not one person even slowed a truck down.”

Gaffney mentioned a June incident in Nogales, Arizona where a makeshift bomb exploded, damaging a tank used for storing diesel fuel. Carlson replied that she and her associates went to the same facility—even to the same spot where the IED blew up — and still were not approached by law enforcement. “I never in a million years would have imagined that we would have been able to do that without being questioned,” she declared.
