Dempsey Compares His Job to Being Crushed By Bricks in Must-See Performance

Over the weekend at the USO Gala in Washington D.C., U.S. Army General Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, sang an Irish ditty to explain what it is like to be in his position at this time in history.

Dempsey sang “Why Paddy’s Not at Work Today” by Pat Cooksey, which starts out with a grim description of a beaten down man.

“Dear Sir I write this note to inform you of my plight

And at the time of writing I am not a pretty sight

My body is all black and blue, my face a deathly gray

I write this note to tell why Paddy’s not at work today.”

His performance was met with loud applause and cheers.
