Landrieu: South Not Always 'Friendliest Place for African-Americans'

Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) blamed the president’s lack of popularity in the South in part on the fact that “the South has not always been the friendliest place for African-Americans” during an interview with NBC’s Chuck Todd.

“I’ll be very, very honest with you. The South has not always been the friendliest place for African-Americans. It’s been a difficult time for the president to present himself in a very positive light as a leader. It’s not always been a good place for women to be able to present ourselves. It’s more of a conservative place” Landrieu said when asked why the president was unpopular in the South.  

She also argued that the president’s energy policy was to blame for his unpopularity in Louisiana.
