George Zimmerman appeals libel suit against NBC

SANFORD, Fla., July 25 (UPI) —

George Zimmerman, the Florida man who shot to death 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in 2012, appealed the ruling on a lawsuit he filed against NBC Universal for libel.

Zimmerman sued NBC, accusing the media giant of editing his 911 call the night he shot Martin to make him appear racist.

Circuit Judge Debra Nelson, sitting in Sanford, threw out the case in late June, saying Zimmerman couldn’t prove the network acted with reckless disregard for the truth in its reporting on the case.

Nelson said the edits NBC made to the 911 call were insignificant.

Zimmerman filed the notice of appeal Tuesday in Sanford.
